Fellgate stands as a haven amidst the urban sprawl of Jarrow, Tyne and Wear. A bastion of greenery and fertile farmland, it now faces the relentless march of urbanization and traffic congestion. This remaining green belt is not just soil and grass; it’s a crucial sanctuary for diverse life forms, a purveyor of fresh air, and a vital link for our community to nature’s bounty.
Yet, this sanctuary is now imperilled, threatened by the looming spectre of development. We implore your aid in its defence.
Our green belt isn’t merely a tract of land; it’s a lifeline for biodiversity, an oasis for clean air, along with a profitable and important farm which has been in operation for five-generations.
A haven for our community’s well-being. It’s where families stroll leisurely, children frolic freely, and where urbanites seek solace from the cacophony of city life.
Regrettably, local authorities and developers have set their sights on this precious land, eager to replace it with sprawling concrete jungles of housing estates, offering promises that may never materialise.
Such development would exacerbate traffic congestion, worsen air pollution, heighten flood risks, and jeopardise the health and welfare of our children.
Without swift action, this invaluable land will vanish forever, along with the myriad of birds, animals, and flora that call it home. Our beloved livery stable, home to 52 horses, which provided solace during the Covid pandemic, would also be lost.
Our community refuses to stand idly by as our green belt dwindles away. We’re banding together to raise funds to resist this encroaching urbanisation, to educate others on the importance of preserving our green spaces, and to ensure the protection of this irreplaceable natural asset.
